SeniorNet Southeastern Conference.

Each year SeniorNet holds a weekend conference to get the center personnel together. This year it is being held the first weekend in June in Atlanta. Typically, a few people may funded to go at SeniorNet expense but all volunteers and members are welcome. Since we are new and do not have an enormous war chest for expenses like these, I am not sure what the arrangements will be on the funding. I should also tell you that I have been told that since this is a non-profit organization any expenses you incur exercising your position as a volunteer are tax deductible.

I have asked the gentleman running the confernece, Larry Hanna and Joe Tartaglino a lot of questions about how this is handled. When I get more information about it I will fill you in. In the meantime, I suggest you bookmark http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Forest/5912/index.html This is the home page for the conference and he will be updating it as things finalize.

Looks like fun. If we indeed find that some course materials don't work for us, we'll need some influence with national to come up with some help in adjusting them. Best way to keep their attention is face to face!

AQs the meeting is scheduled for June, that is several months away. The warchest should have more in it. The number of people that the group could support will depend on its status. I think only one person expenses should be covered, the chairmans. Other parties interested should pay their own. We could get an advance to cover the authorized door fees.

Phil I understand your concerns about the funds. However, as a new center we have lots to learn and many people could benefit from going. One person is impractical since we should have people in the breakout sessions and sennding one person says we only cover one session. Don't you think you could learn a lot about financial procedures at other centers? I think we are neophytes trying very hard and here we are with a chance to talk to the experts only a 2.5 hour drive away. I personally would like to see as many as the active volunteers there as possible. This means that we cannot fund everyone but let's discuss some creative way to do this at the steering committee next week.
