ARE THERE ANY CENTERS FOR ABUSED MEN?

Answers

Very few. There are a few listed on the SAFE webpage, under help. One is in California, and another is in Virginia. The best bet is to:

1. Look at the SAFE web page 2. Call the local domestic violence shelter and see what their policy is towards men (and let SAFE know if it is positive) 3. Ask on safe-support or safe-admin. Info on these mailing lists is on the SAFE webpage.

True there are few centres for abused men. Unfortunately the men are so isolated that when they are desperate enough to try to reach out for help, they get slapped in the face by the agencenies that are supposed to help victims. I am going to do the following in my community: I'm going to phone around to all the agencies that are setup to help the abused (women usually) and ask them what they recommend for an abused man to do? No matter what their response is (angry, helpful or whatever) I will list that organization on a website(probably called something like "The Virtual Men's Shelter of Saskatchewan"). Abused Men can check the site and decide ahead of time whether or not an agency is worth contacting. I think this may have the added effect of shaming some agencies into actually helping men.

Hello,

I am a victim of not only spousal abuse. But domestic abuse also. For seven years I have been hopping to find someone to make my story public. I am living on S. S. I. I would like to help any man I can. You mentioned you were going to talk to lady shelters. I don't trust a ladies shelter as far as I can through them. Back in August of '99. There was a story in our newspaper abiut abuse. I sent my story to the reporter, plus the attorney for one of the lady shelter's here in Pittsburgh, Pa. A few days later, I gave them a call. They refused to speak with me. The story I have is very damaging to my ex-wife and her brother. It ahds all of the elements of the John Bobbitt story and the Clinton saga. Sex, lies, etc, etc, etc. Also, it includes a large insurance company and how they forced me into signing the divorce papers. If you want my story. You have my e-mail address. For seven years I have been tring to get it made public. If you can help me in that area. It would be greatly appreciated. I am handicapped because of the shock my ex-wife cause me in April 1993. I would like to have my story go national. Since early 1995, I have sent it all over the United States. No one has wanted to get involved. It would help other men to come forward. I believe it may help to change some spousal abuse laws. Maybe not! Here is my #412-682-2442

Signed,

L. M. Allen P. S. My story is horrendous!!

I have been like this way for a few years now too, I do want men to have more rights then the women have. I have been mentally, phyically, and spiritully abused. Just not by a woman, but by plow-pulling red necks who have beaten me up on many occassions. What can I do voice my though

I have been abused, as a child, as a husband and as a man. In a number of cases it has been reported, but nothing ever happens. And people wonder why events like Columbine happen? People get tired of being abused and of being let down by the "system". So people have no other choice but to strike out and to hurt those that have hurt them. It is a vicious circle. But I guess we just gotta live with it.
