Doc Paulie, what happened to the opening of your new debunking site?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The link for "the STATUS of the Debunking Y2k Web board" on the new debunking board says:

"New Debunking Y2k on the way! Stay tuned, scheduled roll-out is September 23, 1999

Until then, use this: Debunking the Y2k HYPE"

It's September 24. ?

Answers

Some possible explanations:

1) Pollies LOVE missed deadlines.

2) Pollies LOVE failed predictions.

3) Pollies LOVE to lose track of time.

4) Their schedule was overly optimistic and they ran into unforseen problems.

Of course, only someone with a "doomer meme" would believe answer 4).

5). They have almost completed and are increasingly confident that they can, as long as it's nothing worse than a powerful winter storm and of course no one knows for sure exactly, but they are largely prepared. They have completed repairing and testing all of their "mission-critical" computer systems leaving a full ten minutes of complete end-to-end testing before the actual user test date.

Is this what you are looking for?...

Well CD being first with the news tells us s/he's part of the hardcore polly inner circle, hum? The first message on the 2nd new debunking board is timed this morning and it's only just been linked at the 1st new debunking board. So how come it wasn't ready by the deadline, CD?

-- Just (won@der.ing), September 24, 1999.

Saw Doc Paulie's "Welcome" message. It says, in part:

One thing I can guarantee, this webboard is faster than anything us debunkers have had before. Hopefully this amateur has done enough technically so as to keep any technical issues rare.

Simply amazing just how many CGI-Perl type of webboard programs I have played with over the last month. Can tell you 100%, there is no perfect do-all system. One will have this and this and that, but lack that, and thus is not feasible. Most are written and released in NOT DONE condition and require code-level tweaking I am hardly incapable of pulling-off. Many are so bad, I doubt anybody could get them to work as they sit. Huge learning experience. Anyhow enough of my troubles.

- Why aren't there more sites like this?

- How do they deal with the bad news that's out in the public domain?

"Just w@ndering"-

It wasn't exactly rocket science "Just". I saw the notice at the same place you did. You asked the question and I gave you the link. Go get yourself another cup 'o coffee.

Man, you meltdown freaks are really desperate, aren't you? Criticizing Doc Paulie because the new Debunking board was a little late. How many of you doomers could even create/run your own board??? I didn't think so. But that's typical doomer logic. You couldn't script a web board to save your lives, but you feel you are in a position to criticize those who do. See any correlations to Y2K issues like embedded systems? (I do). That must be why techno-illiterate types like Paul Milne are at the forefront of your movement.

Well, the new board is up. So why don't you put your money where your mouth is and stop over for some debate????? Or is the background color not to your liking..... : (

This is the date on the first message:

"9/24/99"

I reckon they have about 99 days to enjoy their new lair. Way to go, Doc! :-)

Geeee, that Weality Teck guy is vewy vewy touchie aint he?

-- ssshhhhhhhhhh (we.are@hunting.wabbit), September 24, 1999.

Roland,

Typical misinformed doomer assumption. Just because a date is displayed w/ a 2 digit year, doesn't mean the system displaying it won't work after 1/1/00.

2 Digit-

It'll be interesting to see if any actual Y2K debunking takes place on the new board. Not that there was any on the old one, mind you. Now it looks like the same half dozen or so people have a faster place on which to hurl their insults. CPR doesn't have to wait so long to answer his own posts.

-- (dot@dot.dot), September 24, 1999.

An interesting side note...

The latest post was time-stamped 1300 hours, yet it only appeared after 5:00 pm EST. (yes, I had hit "refresh").

Faster that the speed of light. LOL!

*Another* new debonker's board?? How many boards do the same handful of vicious people require when they've always spent more time here than on their own boards anyway? (Waving hello to the anonypollies visiting this thread. Now, who could they be? hmmm....)

I see that this new board also carries the misnomer "Debunking Y2K". Would it not be more accurate to call it "Ridiculing Gary North, Ed Yourdon and TB2000 Posters"? It's as though sufficient repetition of their favorite memes...Gary North is a Christian Reconstructionist, Ed Yourdon sells books, some people think Y2K will be the end of civilization...proves that there will be no serious impact from Y2K!

It's hard to take them seriously when a number of them, claiming to be Christians, obviously gain so much enjoyment from smearing their feces on the walls of TB2000. In spite of "a's" poll showing conclusively that the vast majority of posters on TB2000 believe Y2K impacts will be 4-6 on a 10 point scale, debonker's persist in their peculiar religious belief that everyone posting here expects Infomagic. Their apparent inability to comprehend the difference can only cause one to question their comprehension level about anything...including Y2K. I don't begrudge them their religion. But, rather like Al-d, wish they'd take it somewhere more appropriate...or even keep it on one of their many "debonking" boards.

Yes, his board is up and chugging along with ad hominem instead of coal in the old boiler. Marianne Michaels, the writer, posted the URL here on Thursday - yesterday. I had not until yesterday ever visited any "debunking" boards. A real learning experience, I must say.

One of the saddest and frustrating things about the last 18 months of learning/preparing was to read the constant invective and demonstrated lack of emotional maturity in discussions/dialogues. This forum sadly has not been much of an exception to the observable trend,...it's been a tad better, but not much, so don't start popping your buttons with pride. (Those Yourdon posters who are the exceptions probably know it.) The debunk fora's by and large amp up the abusive and loaded language exponentially, as do the emotionally immature folks here. Heavy duty surge protection would be needed if one could convert it to electricity.

Sadness does not convey for me what this means for human beings on Planet Earth. Huge grief, ya, that's it. Demonstrated daily on the internet is one, if not the only, cause for all of the world's problems; failure to mature,... oh the bodies are grown, sure, but that's about it.

Y2K disruptions, earthquakes, floods, plagues, famine or none, it is long past time to grow up. And for those who do the name-calling, try standing for 5 minutes each morning/day in front of a mirror directing that bile at yourself. Then check on how you feel about you. Get some life training, deal with your personal woundedness, Lovely ones. It is long past time.
