OT-PREDICT TOMORROWS STOCK MARKET

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Let's start the next prediction of tomorrows stock market. Looks like a few of us were off the mark today, but I came close at one point. I predict: Dow down 125 points, Nasdaq down 35 points, and S&P down 12. Gold up another $10.00, silver up $2.50.

I can give you generalities based on tonight's INVESTECH hotline, which is copyrighted. We believe, as does JIM STACK, that there are massive hedge funds that are short gold, and have greedily been playing the spread for a few years now, thanks to the built-in GUARANTEE that Greedspin gave the markets last oct. Well, that didn't stop Ecuador from defaulting on its GUARANTEED Brady Bonds, did it?.

When all this is done and history, we will be able to refer to those countries that took part in this (ultimately) US taxpayer-backed scam as THE BRADY BUNCH. Note that there is a big FEAR factor being built into PUTS now, that wasn't there a month ago. In mid-Aug, at the DJIA all-time peak, you could buy DEC DJY 100 PUTS for $1.50. NOW they are near $4.00. My personal guess, and I may be cheating slightly since as I type this, gold is down $2.50 in Asia, is that gold may slide tomorrow here, and in the next few days. This could be just "shaking the tree" in a stock-market term, used to get people to panic and sell out. But I can't see how this will magically unwind all those hedged positions(almost ALL on the short side). Look how gold blew right thru the $300 mark today. There is a BIG force at play. Has Greedspin unleashed the genie from the bottle? Market forces are BIGGER than ANY central bank(s), regardless of the brainwashing to the contrary of the past 20,40,50 years.

Okay. Lets see. Um ah.. Chocolate stocks will be up, yucky nutritious food stocks will be down. Things that are really messy, like oil stocks will be down, and ah, things that make you feel good, like make-up - and chocolate again - will be up. Other than that, the big guys who have a lot to loose if the stock market plummets are going to use every trick in the book to try to keep the market price up. And try to get the gold price back down.

I'm watching next week and the Fed meeting. My prediction is that the Fed will not raise rates and the DOW will bounce. That gives everyone a chance to get out if you're still in. Also, gold will be down somewhat--offering an opportunity there...

Feds will raise interest raise 1/4 point October 5. Too many credit cards, need to curb spending, consumers are ansy, and Santa ain't coming to town.

-- Santa on Strike (santaonstrike@santaonstrikeee.xcom), September 28, 1999.

Dow Jones down 160 NASDAQ down 79 S&P down 15 Gold up $10.

-- Gia (laureltree7@hotmail.com), September 29, 1999.

I predict that some people will continue to waste time and bandwidth trying to guess what the market will do the next day, or even later the same day, instead of simply waiting a few hours and looking it up! :-)

Get a grip folks. :-)

Jerry B--quit wasting bandwith with your comments. Wait until the predictions are over and then make fun of us!

-- (DowGuy@wallstreet.com), September 29, 1999.

Dow Guy, you get a big smooooch!

Sysman, I have a confession to make, I am also the person called "no kidding." I'm getting really scared now with these predictions, and I have not yet commented on the predicted 8+ earthquake that is suppose to hit California before the end of November. There's nothing to it, just a lucky guess that's all.

-- stock watcher (StockWatcher@stockwatcherr.xcom), September 29, 1999.

I'll take that smooooch. :)
