A no-option trip on the Auto Train 1-9-00-HELP!

If you were moving to Florida and had to be there for a new job-and had to get 2 cars there-- sounds bad doesn't it? What do you think you'd take in the tote bags you can carry on the train for the trip? (You can't get into your car till you reach Sanford Florida.) Has anybody heard anything about the AmTrack situation? I did hear that there is no manual switching left in the system. It's a real nightmare scenario to me. Any info?

Food (especially not requiring cooking), water, warm clothes...in short, a version of the 72-hour "bugout bag." One key would be to plan to be able to withstand a stalled train for a couple of days...

Can you drive one of your cars, and ship the other? Or ride the bus? Or go early(like just after Christmas?) Or if you must ship both cars, what about renting a car to drive to Florida? I think I would try to move before the end of the year, if at all possible. Like now, before the weather gets bad.

But if you do end up riding the train on Jan. 9, Mad Monk has good advise...water, ready to eat food, extra clothes (a blanket), a good flashlight, batteries, any medicine you need, more water....
