HAving just finished lesson 6, I was confirmed in my opinion that it should have been lesson 3, or at least lesson 4. I recognize some need for uniformity, but if left to myself I would probably change the order and teach them in that sequence. It would make a lot of stuff done by rote in other classes more meaningful.

That sounds like something we could try. I agree that they have been saving and retrieving from the diskette without really understanding what was going on regarding file management.
