What I mean by "cooperatively" is that if anyone else is interested in these same items, we might be able to order them at the same time at some discount price.

Haaaaaaaay! Idea thief!

Actually, though, the LED Bulk-Buys should be proof positive that the TB2K cybercommunity is capable of managing mass purchases from manufacturers in quantity lots. Which saves everybody a decent amount of hard-earned Parker Bros. $.

Hopefully whoever does this effort is familiar with how to run a cooperative quantity purchase. :-) If not, E-mail me and I'll see what help I can be in the management department.

He's got a LED and knows how to use it... Fear the man they call-

Is it possible that everyone is finished prepping?

-- Stan Faryna (faryna@groupmail.com), October 07, 1999.

Been done a long time ago Stan. Don't you remember all the stories we heard several months ago that the runs on the stores would be here in October? So we scrambled and got it done before the sheeple crowd. Well, where's the sheeple? Any sheeple out there that wants to get in on a coop order?

You mean to tell me the guy that has been pushing the "14 days of preps" every day for the last year doesn't even have his own preps yet?

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

-- Stan Faryna (faryna@groupmail.com), October 08, 1999.

I'd be interested in some of the items listed, but not all. Picking & choosing may make a bulk purchase problematical, right?

Elsewhere, Bill P. Writes:

"Dutch Valley Foods in Myertown Pa [is the supplier for Lehmans]. [To order from them...] you must be a co-op and order hundreds of pounds of food. One catalog is sent to a lead person free, each addition one is $2.00 (or you can copy it, they do not mind). One person in your co-op group is in charge of ordering and collecting monies, etc. Anybody can be a 'co-op', in our case it will be our church.

Phone number for Dutch Valley Foods, 1-800-733-4191, and their fax # is: (717) 933-5466. Up to 500 lbs. is sent UPS, after that, Dutch Valley Foods has their own trucking service to deliver stuff to you at more savings."

Thanks Bill!

Sincerely, Stan Faryna

Tom,

That's a fantastic question. I should have started this thread making explicit its purpose. Better late than never. (grin)

The purpose of this thread and the other thread by the same title in the TB2000 Preparation forum is for people to go ahead and list any thing they'd like to get.

The idea is for people who see "wanted things" in common can get in touch with others (here or by private email) and coordinate a cooperative buying effort. I can attempt to manage it all or several people can manage different kinds of preps. It would be best if "managers" have a reseller's tax id and be able to take credit cards (for those that don't have cash). Folks using credit cards should be aware that it is only fair that they pay the credit card processing fees (generally 3-5 percent for Master Card and Visa). Some "managers" might want to offer additional services such as bucketing bulk products in order to divide up a bulk order. Of course, buckets, lids, dessicants, and oxygen absorbers may cost more. In general, "managers" will be receiving the products, dividing up the goods, and shipping them to the cooperative buyers.

When you are looking at lists, don't think you have to get the exact same quantity or exact same goods as those goods listed.

For example, if you want to get sprouting seeds, you probably don't have to get the same kinds and same qualities as the ones that I'd like to get. And who knows, I may re-evaluate what I want if we can get a better deal by buying more of one thing than another. The guiding rule should be to save as much money as possible as we prep in the end game.

Sincerely,
Stan Faryna

My local Hechingers is going out of business. I'm taking a notebook to write down some things that might be of general interest. Now, I don't have time to buy everything for everyone, but if there are things that look shippable and may be a good deal, I will list them in this thread and in the other thread in the TB2000 Preparation Forum. Today, things are generally 15% off. By Monday, things may generally be at 20% off.

I know a few folks who've been dealing with Dutch Valley Foods for years. Good service, good products, but from perusing the price list some time last fall I didn't see much in the way of savings when compared with the local health food store.

Hey Stan! Hechinger's going OOB are they? Sounds vaguely familiar. ;)

I only had about an hour in Hechingers. This is what is gone mostly: lightbulbs, power tools, chain saws, lots of cordless screwdrivers/ drills, bucket lids, etc. Ok, so what's left. Lots. Some of the things I noticed:

Y2K Emergency Kit (Stove, Heater, and Lantern that works off propane cans). It is listed as costing $US 90 (after a 30% discount). There are about a half dozen left.

Plastic garden starter kits. Now there was four or five different set ups ranging from $US 2.50 to $US 5.00. I got one tray that gets 120 seeds going. It's pretty flimsy, but would sure do great in front of the windows. This particular set up requires you provide your own dirt. They have 10 seed starter kits that come with a neat peat disc.

Compost maker. Sorry folks, I got the last two boxes of this powder.

Portable and compact bull horns. There's half a dozen left. I got two for $US 20 each. These are perfect for the Patriot-style LP/OP (?).

Yeast and Flour (usually on sale before the holidays) Sugar Canned pumpkin canned milk turkeys (make turkey jerky) glace fruit 50-100# oatmeal #10 cans of yam flakes (can't find them on Kaua'i)
