Fall is in the air.....

Well, the sun is coming up and a brisk wind is blowing. Reminded me that I still haven't made the house weathertight - need stripping, caulking, etc... also enough clear plastic to make "storm windows" for some old windows. Have the materials to make better goat shelter and to finish up the chicken house (started 1 yr. ago) - It just struck me that time is going to fly now, with all the holidays, shorter days, etc.

Also was appointed to my local water/community services district board last night - won't actually be able to vote until December. Too late to do much more than beg about getting a generator to backup the pumps (which serve 1000 people). They have the money sitting there, have a great used gennie availabe w/all accessories but only one board member (of 5) was willing to move to purchase - the motion died for want of a second. Sigh..... The most eloquent of the directors said she thought Y2k was not going to be anything at all - if something happens, it will happen all over so "they" will just bring bottled water in to the communities and also that during a recent flood, she went into a local Red Cross Shelter and "they were serving up meals you or I would pay $15 for at a restaurant" - "we would be taken care of if something happens". I asked her if that was what is happening in North Carolina - no response and no further opportunity to bring it up. I am pretty disgusted right now, but have been asked to help write the Y2k newsletter for the customers - hmmmm... wonder what I will recommend....?

Moral of the story is: Prepare, it is amazing what fools we have running some of our services.
