Bennett gonna go head and fly on New Years' Eve. Who knows, maybe the sky IS the safest place to be.

Shark Tank: You first. Sir.

Y2K be damned, says U.S. Sen. Robert Bennett; the Utah Republican declares he's willing to fly on a "responsible" airline on New Year's Eve. "In the aggregate," Bennett says, "they [the airline] have more to lose then I do." Well, yeah. But while their aggregate falls out of the sky with you inside it, they're home in bed. Or babysitting an IT department as the clock ticks up to midnight, like the Shark. Who, while not as important as a U.S. senator, knows his aggregate from his elbow. http://www.computerworld.com/home/news.nsf/all/991005Tues105Shark

lisa,

It's October and the "leaders" of Y2K in our illustrious government are at this level of PR tomfoolery. If this is the best assurance that thinks will be a BITR then we are in for a disaster like we've never seen.

Where are serious really men?

This will not be forgotten in 2000 and I wouldn't want to be a politician or Bill C or G. for all the gold, silver, and beans in the world....

things will be a BITR

Wow,maybe something ironic and wonderful will happen.

It ain't the flying...its the going up (departure control, center and hand offs) and the coming back down.

The prick is probably going to be -winging- it to his hide-a-way when the pollies go to lynch him....

He himself said just last year that you may be able to take off and fly, but where will you land?

-- bburke (bill52@rocketmail.com), October 08, 1999.

And unlike most here, he got a good answer. Times have indeed changed in a year.

Oh brother,

He'll be willing to fly, but he knows as well as I that an airline won't fly unless it's proven safe. My bet is no airline flies. Bennett can express confidence without risk.

Gotta agree with Dog Gone on this one. If airlines are flying, you can bet it's safe. Otherwise, nobody flies including Bennett.

-- Flint (flintc@mindspring.com), October 08, 1999.

We've been seeing a major number of airlines planning on closing for the rollover... If nothing else, flying at rollover will be the lonely skies...
