my mother, her mother and my dad and his brother, our conversations and relationship was broken one by by their deaths.

Grandma Johnson. She died before I could really get to know her (when I was two). I would like to know how she sounded, how she presented her words, what kinds of things she liked. Her pictures make her look stern, but I am told she was great fun. I think I would see some of myself in her, but I don't know. And I would like to have known her mother, too. I see a line of physical resemblance from great-grandma to grandma to mom to me. I wish I had known all of them a little better.

I wish they had kept journals....
