A visual reminder that I am indebted to the Father for my life.

Paul said he was determined to know one thing: Jesus Christ and Him crucified! This death, beyond anything we might imagine has brought Life equally unfathomable. Yet He has made this life available to us. With the constant media onslaught of images that lead our minds this central reminder is essential.

The true meaning of the papal crucifix and other crucifixes reminds us that "OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST OFFERS HIMSELF ON THE CROSS FOR OUR SALVATION; THE SYMBOL OF GOD'S LOVE FOR US HIS CREATURES."

it is a symbol of life and death. The horizontal slash is that of death, and the vertical slash is life. You live a short life and then you die but as you continue you are reborn and life continues for eternity. Essentially it is a symbol of the transcience of death and the longevity of life.
