Let's stick to the forum topic - please

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

What are rocket attacks and earthquake reports doing on the y2k forum? At least label them OT if they are going to be posted. Better yet, go post them in a news forum or someplace!

Y2k is depressing enuf without including unrelated bad news from around the world.

This is my own last post. I am bailing out and not returning until normalcy has been redefined in the aftermath of Y2K. All I am seeing in increasing numbers are Homo Stupiens. Of course earthquakes must be brought up, no doubt, "It's a sign of Jesus coming," or a darn good reason to purchase a goofy home safe and "get out all your money from dem banks."

You know what the real pisser is? Those of us who had sites up last fall and winter were livid the Feds really believed Americans were so STUPID nothing could be told to Americans. I have reasoned after reading enough of the "Jesus will comes" and the "Better get your monies out" that the Feds are correct. All that is activated right now and is activated with one or two rare exceptions are Homo Stupiens. They are an emotional and not an intellectual people, they walk looking down at their shoes and react because REACTION is everything! And then they, the sheeple, the Homo Stupiens, have the gall to claim their running the bank is "different, ooh no I'm not a sheeple, see I'm racing out the door to do exactly what the government had said the idiotic sheeple would do!"

Quite obvious anyone intelligent has left with the direct purpose of shunning these psuedo Y2K'ers. It's too many crazies now. Just crazies. I leave them to their signs of "revelations" (earthquakes) and their goofy home safes.

Paula,

So soon?

Here I thought your tactic of shooting 'a shy glance & grabbing a wedding veil' as a defense mechanism was one of the scariest and most ingenious posts of late.

Ciao, babe.

Paula; You are frustrated with the very same thing many of us feel. Please don't dump out here. If the moderates don't contribute and continue to debate the extremists on either end, this will become a forum manipulated to generate fear and panic. It will further compound what is already a very difficult future.

Everyone has an agenda. There are people and organizations which have a vested interest in creating panic and fragmenting the citizenry. There are people and organizations which have an interest in pacifying and stupifying the citizenry. There are paranoids and realists. There are even the simply self serving interested in "showing you their next trick" because they want some attention.

As the nut cases become more and more vocal, otherwise rational people will become frustrated and slip off into obscurity to prepare. The balance will shift and this forum will become the province of idiots and rabble rousers.

It is important that you continue to contribute because each day there will be more people stopping in here and seeking rational advice from people who have been thinking on the problem for a long time.

Your voice will be heard by those people. Though the real survivors as I have said else where will remain relatively anonymous.

Chowbabe, I shook the dust off about a year ago when this place hit the shitcan only to return and find it in even worse shape. Ed should just close this place down before he is the laughing stock of the world. My newspaper editor would not even publish internet websites for Y2K because he thought people might be steered here and he did not want to take the blame for it.

Good luck.

Just as a point of fact, any casual stroll through the archives will show that this forum has played host to a LOT of breaking news over the last couple years. Many of our regulars have come to depend on it for this. Breaking news has ALSO been posted because it has meant the imminent danger to some of our "forum friends". This forum has been how we keep in touch with what has developped in to an extended family.

Leave if you must, but please let's understand that both the breaking news aspect and much of the OT stuff is much the same as any family would have at a family get together where the family is large and diverse (my inlaws spring IMMEDIATELY to mind, where the last family gathering on my bride's maternal grandMOTHER's side numbered 243).

"Ed should just close this place down before he is the laughing stock of the world."

Rubbish. Most of the "world" doesn't surf the net at all. Most of those who do surf spend their time either on porn sites, or shopping, or chat-chat-chat. We here are a minority w/in a minority.

And if they DID come here, the "world" would find some very interesting discussions, & would merely scroll past all the morons (such as yourself). Which is what I've been doing for months now.

Yeah, Paula, and take erminski with ya.

We are in the calm before the storm, and now it is just a matter of waiting for the sheeple to be wakened by the thunder as it approaches.

It is clear that Greenspan is no idiot and he realizes that the Federal Reserve Bank does not have sufficient funds to handle a stock market sell-off in addition to the ever-increasing withdrawals in preparation for next year, so they will continue to float the stock market for as long as investors can be convinced that everything is fine. Everytime investors get nervous and the DOW slips toward 10,000 the PPG will step in and front the necessary funds to keep the Titanic afloat, even though the hole in the bow is ready to split wide open.

If more companies are forthcoming about what they expect, as IBM has been, then we may reach the critical mass that will trigger a crash, but if not, then the losses to business could conceivably be hidden all the way until the earnings announcements at the end of 1st quarter 2000.

Personally I appreciate the news on all topics because it saves me the trouble of checking several different sites, and there hasn't been a lot of significant changes in Y2K lately. We usually get the best news here first, often even faster than Drudge, and as Martha Stewart likes to say "this is a GOOD thing"!

Funny how the disrupters are always pronouncing the Forum "dead."

Earthquakes are very apropo. Here in Cascadia we'll have a 9+ sooner or later. Scientific geological evidence. Y2K preps = earthquake preps = hurricane preps = tornado preps = economic decline preps = prudent common-sense wisdom.

If you study earthquakes and their aftermath, you can glean true clues as to humanimal reactions, "relief" efforts, the patterns that emerge. Shows what to expect, anticipate, PREPARE FOR. And then there's the aftershocks ...

This forum can and has saved many lives. If you find that "crazy" then go ahead and leave and die with the rest of the Pollys.
