This is a WORD document so you must have at least WORD97(?) to read it, but it is worth glancing at, you would think they had been around this forum(?) It has a lot of good idea's and things to think about. Enjoy.

It is called the DOD Commander's Y2K Preparedness Handbook.

{SNIP}

INTRODUCTION PURPOSE The Commander's Handbook will assist Commanding Officers or Directors of DoD facilities, installations and other commands in preparing for contingencies arising from potential community or host country Y2K infrastructure disruptions to basic services. This Handbook is designed to be a guide that will facilitate the Contingency Planning process. This guidance supplements, but does not replace, any planning guidance issued by your DoD component. The objectives of the Handbook are as follows: 7 Provide a framework to assess your site-wide Y2K readiness. 7 Identify and prioritize contingency planning gaps based on critical Y2K vulnerabilities that are specific to your community, host-nation, and site. 7 Develop a site Contingency Plan for addressing identified gaps. 7 Structure the dialogue between the Command and the community, vendors, tenant units, and for OCONUS units, the supporting host-nation. SCOPE In general, the DoD Y2K Management Plan (available on the DoD C3I Y2K web site listed in Appendix E) requires that all Operational Contingency Plans for mission-critical functions be in place and exercised prior to July 1, 1999. For all non-mission-critical functions that you are planning to address with Operational Contingency Plans, it is recommended that these plans be completed by October 1, 1999, in order to permit validation and training prior to December 1999. The goal of the Handbook is not to answer all of your potential questions, but to stimulate creative thinking and promote awareness of your strengths and weaknesses. Additionally, the Handbook will assist in allocating your Y2K-related resources. The procedures outlined in this Handbook can be used to assist Y2K contingency planning for both Basic Services as well as Core Missions. TIMELINE It is up to the Commander of each site to determine when to start and when to certify the completion, depending on the size of the site and work in progress. As the Handbook demonstrates, some resources must be ordered and coordination initiated soon to meet the December 31st 1999 deadline. STEP ONE Before starting, read Appendix A (Facilitator's Guide) of this Handbook. In addition to explaining the process, it provides information on a suggested Y2K Committee composition and other supporting assignments

I sometimes wonder why I am still allowed to post here. Since Al-d was ran off I figured I was the next one to get booted, cause lets be honest, I offer nothing to this forum, except a class on how to cut and paste. Its just as well though, I found out at Burger King today that they were thinking about moving me to the drive-thru window full time. If I go full time to the "window" I will probably be really pissy after a hard day of listening to you idiot doomers order of your whoppers and shakes.

""c3i"??? Sounds AWFULLY familiar... I wonder.....?"

C3I and C4I is DoD's Communications dept; C3I is intelligence, and C4I is computers.

C3I = 1980's acronym pronounced C Cubed I stands for Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence.

C4I = 1990's acronym pronounced C4I for obvious reasons... stands for Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence

The clue given by the usage of C3I is that the writer has been in service for atleast ten years.

Still goes by C3I in 1999. Check the webpage. http://www.c3i.osd.mil/org/

Also do a search for "c4i" and you'll come up with this:

"Abstract: Release 3.0 of the "Glossary of Published Definitions from Department of Defense (DoD) Command and Control, Communications, Intelligence (C3I), Computers, (C4I) and Information Management (IM) Policy and Procedural References."
