Seasonal Ups and Downs

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Naked Eye : One Thread

I think most people suffer from some form (mild to serious) of Seasonal Affective Disorder. I mean - how can we not - a reduction of life-giving light - yada yada yada. Well, people who live in places with actual seasons, I mean.

Does the changing of the seasons affect you? How? Do yuo *do* anything about it?

Hey. Those of us living in "non-seasonal" places get SAD too. We, too, have short winter days and not much sunshine. I found I am subject to SAD sometime just before Christmas - maybe early December, and it can last until April. Now that I have identified it, I try to do things to fight it - get lots of sun when it does shine, notice the slide and stop it with laughter and friendship and just outright acknowledgement of the problem. Taking walks during the work day helps, too, because otherwise I barely even see daylight for a couple of months.

For some odd reason, Spring depresses me---it's too bright, too cheerful, it's like a Mary Kay session. Summer I like, but for some oddball reason, that's when I get into the most trouble online with people.....a continuing thing which goes back several summers. I have no iddea why. I loooooooove Fall. Winter's okay, but Nashville drivers suck on any sort of snow or ice.--Al

Hah, I've just written an entire entry about seasonal allergies. Our winters in Sydney are reasonably mild so we don't get the Cold Thing that Canada does; but winter does tend to drag on. This spring is taking a long time to make up its mind to be cheery and sunny (isn't that right, Viv?)

summer pros: you can get a tan you can go to the cottage no school no bills a car

winter pros: you can wear black you can ski ski ski you can wear better clothes you dont feel all icky and hot no work no parents

it's a toss up I'll tell ya right now :)

don't mind either too much to tell you the truth though... I think the thought of an entire week in February to ski keeps me going strong...
