I am interested in when the railroad tracks were built in the Dry Fork- Chatham,VA area.My late grandmother told many stories of the people who worked on the project. She was born in 1907,so I guess it was around 1912-17? when they were built.

I believe the railroad in that area was actually built by 1874. Probably what your late grandmother remembered were people who worked on the double-tracking project that took place around that time.

Hello, My name is Dan Harrell and I live in Philadelphia Pa. My father was from a section of Front Royal Virginia called Happy Creek which is on Happy Creek Road next to Leach's Run. I remember as a youngster visiting Happy Creek and one of my clearest memories was a small general store and post office and particularly the railroad tracks that ran parallel to Happy Creek Road across from the family home. I can still clearly see the land beyond the tracks and how beautiful that area is. I have driven to the area a couple times, but, I was wonder if that stretch of track ever has a passenger train go thru. If it does I would like to get some information on how to get a ride thru Happy Creek into Front Royal. I'll even hop a freight!!! Thanks for your help. Dan Harrell
