I made an action that bypasses the Photoshop 5 lack of 16 bit Multichannel mode and which creates a 16 bit per channel manual CMYK separation followed by an 8 bit conversion and an adjustment layer for final print tweaking. I will email it to anyone who'd like it. Note, if you want to do more editing in 16 bit mode run the action a step at a time.
