Sony S530D Has anyone been able to play CDR's on it?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hello, I have a Sony S530D and it play regular Video-CD but not the ones that I cut. I was able to go into my local WIZ store and try it out on the Sony 600D and it worked fine there. Has anyone found a CDR that can be read on the S530D?

Thanks

I found the answer out myself, the S530D will accept the CDR-RW CDs.

I have a Sony DVD S600D which is the 5 disk changer. It will use any silver on green or blue CDR (Maxell, Imation). I tested all of the Sony DVD with a home made CDR before choosing this machine since I wanted the flexibity of having not to change the disks too frequently. Only the top model Sony have the dual lasers which will read CDRs but the 530D was not able to read them since it does not have a dual laser. What is interesting is my SONY will not recognize CDRWs which are dark silver - memorex, KAO, Maxell while your SONY 530D appears to read them. I tried Smart and Friendly but my ACER burner will not recognize them so I am unable to help you with this. The advantage is that you can experiment with the VCD format without wasting disks while I will have to toss any VCD I make that I do not like. Could you tell me what CDRW you are using since maybe the brand you are using will work on the S600D. I would suggest in the future for anyone shopping for a DVD player, have an audio and/or VCD burn on a CDR as well as a CDRW to see if the machine will recognise them. Thanks

Let me clear-up what I said. The Sony 600D can only read a standard CDR and the Sony S530D can only read a CDR-W. So far I have not found a Player that can do both. Later next week I will be expermenting with other CDR's to see if that works. As K. said we need "flexibility" in this media.

As I stated, the Sony S600D is a dual laser DVD and will not read the CDRWs I have tested. Maybe it is different than other brands. The CDRWs that I have used are not as reflective as the standard CDRs and this most likely accounts for the difficulty. I am told there is silver on silver CDRWs that are available which may be more reflective. I would appreciate it if there is anyone who can tell me the brand name of these CDRWs and where to buy them or the brand name of the CDRWs that work with the S530D. Someone mentioned in the past that the CDRW which came with the HP burner worked but I can not find HP CDRWs locally. Thank you.
