SCL H-15 Locomotives

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

Gentlemen, I need some information on the SCL H-15s used at the Waycross hump yard for a society project. If you have any of the following info, I would appreciate it greatly: 1) Former locomotive types/road/road number, 2) Dates they were rebuilt, 3) What number locomotives they were paired up with, 4) Their current status and paint scheme, 5) What other engines operate on the Waycross hump, 6) Plans for the next generation of hump engines, and finally, 7) Do you have any good stories from these engines? Thanks alot! John Golden

Okay John, what I have is from a variety of FLS/SCL/CSX documents. The first item is an untitled xeorox copy of a DIESEL-ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVE pamphlet, pgs 6&7. Assisting this is a CONDENSED ROSTER of LOCOMOTIVES, January 1, 1981. Also, the SCL DIESEL DATA BOOK AND WRECKING CRANES, July 1, 1968, and February 13, 1974. And finally, CSX MECHANICAL-OPERATIONS, August 1,1991. Here goes....

FAMILY LINES SYSTEM/SEABOARD COAST LINE H-15 LOCOMOTIVES

#1 is ex-SCL SDP-35 #1957; exx-SCL #607; nee-SAL #1106 (29345, 8/64) #2 is ex-SCL SDP-35 #1955; exx-SCL #605; nee-SAL #1104 (29343, 8/64) #3 is ex-SCL SD-35 #1901; nee-ACL #1001 (29036, 6/64) #4 is ex-SCL SD-35 #1916; nee-ACL #1016 (30523, 9/65) #5 is ex-SCL SDP-35 #1951; exx-SCL #601; nee-SAL #1100 (29339, 7/64) #6 is ex-SCL SDP-35 #1964; exx-SCL #614; nee-SAL #1113 (29352,10/64) #7 is ex-SCL SD-35 #1917; nee-ACL #1017 (30524, 9/65) #8 is ex-SCL SD-35 #1908; nee-ACL #1008 (29598,12/64)

All units geared to 62:15 at 1500 HP. All H-15's had a fuel capacity of 3000 gals.. According to the CSX book, which contains numerous errors, only H-15 #4 (CSX #1004) and H-15 #8 (CSX #1008) were in service in 1991. It also lists the rebuild date for #4 as 6-08-78, and #8 as 9-15-78. There's also a picture on the inside cover of a 1978 issue of TRAINS magazine of #1, with the Water St. office in the background. I've lost this issue, but I beleive that #1 was the first FLS engine to be painted gray.

I can see why no one has answered this question. It takes 1/2 of your library to answer it. Hope this is of help to you.
