I've been monitoring y2k news and I keep noticing Grace Hopper's name being brought up. I'm curious why the media only throws out her name and her reputation as being the mother of COBOL, but fails to go furthur. Is the media trying to pin the blame of the y2k bug on dear old Grace? Most COBOL programmers I've spoken to insist that they begged management to use a four digit year, but senior management insisted that they stick to the industry standard of a two digit year, allegedly to save memory space. Maybe I've been listening to too many conspiracy theorists proposing that elitist secret societies have been steering the world towards an preplanned Armageddon Script set to go off near the year 2000. The expiration of the leases Hong Kong, Macao, and Alaska (according to Vladimir Zhirinovsky) and the Panama Canal Zone leases may also be chapters in this script.

Could Grace Hopper been one of these operatives?
