When will enough be enough ????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Something I've been thinking about lately is as things continue to go downhill, at what point will I (and this question is, will you), determine enough is enough and try to go into the 'self sufficient' mode that the preps have been for ???? Not talking about 'buggin out' (that will be determined by people's actions, safety issues, etc). More along the lines of how much 'pain in the butt factor' will it take to make the decision and how will that transition to the preps play out ???? Many are talking of anxiety and impatience now, anyone thought about how these feelings are going to change and be dealt with during our personal 'rollover' ????

Personally, our preps have been geared towards being able to 'sit out' the panic phase, then move towards self-sufficiency as the disrupted phase settles in. We have done a lot of the 'Get Your House In Order' theme of a couple of weeks ago and are very comfortable where we are now. I know the days will come and be dealt with 1 at a time (just as we are doing now), however, I also know they will be different.

This question could turn into one of those 'God' threads, not my intent, so please don't preach !!! However, if you want to share any NON-PREACHING, NON SCIPTURE QUOTING personal spiritual views, the e-mail is valid

Why is it that people hate scripture so much? Could it be that it really does reveal your wicked heart.

For me, the answer is never. I have enough stuff for about six months, and could rasily afford more. But at age 72, I cannot and will not go back to looking at a mule's ass all day. Besides, there are not and will not be enough mules to go around. If I had 14 children, I could consider some sort of subsistence farming, but you cant do it by yourself.

My gut feeling is that, if six months is not enough, then six years is also probably not enough. If six months is not enough, it won't make that much difference to me. I came up through what must be the golden age, and I don't think there is a 'reset' button, Y2K or not.

I prepped with the idea that being in a store after Thanksgiving could be really unpleasant, so I am prepared to rely on my preps starting then. Fresh milk, eggs and bread will be a treat if the lines aren't too long, otherwise I am all set. (This is why the idea of a couple days or a couple weeks worth of supplies is ridiculous to me, because I expect to have used at least that much up prior to the rollover.)

Enough will be enough when there is a concern for one's safety in any day-to-day activity. Preps are for security, not adventure. I think you have it right. However, it would be a good time to read scripture so when someone starts to preach you will know whether they are telling the truth or blowing smoke.

Enough Is

Glad you asked, since this has been my plan all along.

I will "go" when I lose my job. If I do not lose my job, I will go when my preps = 3 years AND my fiscal preps = (predetermined level, confidential). Then enough is enough, and I will steel myself to look at a mule's ass all day for many, many days.

I see the symptoms of this society's ills; I see there is no cure other than radical excision of the diseased tissue. I personally will not do that. I personally WILL remove myself from the corpulent area and try to foster a pocket of healthy community.

I guess you just have to know when to stop throwing good energy into a hopeless cause.

Because 95 percent of what I bought is the same kind of food we normally eat (I'm a full-time, Sweetie's a part-time vegetarian), we have been eating from the store room for quite some time, rotating new purchases to the back of the shelves. I'm going to keep adding several things per week until or unless it's prudent not to go near grocery stores. If Y2K problems constitute only a bump in the road, then I'll simply quit buying anyway and run down the stocks to what I think would be prudent, given storms and my decrepit condition. I think two months worth would do it but I'll keep three months, just to be on the safe side.

The other five percent that's not stuff we normally eat consists of buckets of soy meat-replacer from Lumen Foods (soybean.com). We've been eating their stuff for years, just not the 230-portion size buckets! I notice they've just added non-genetically-modified soy products and I'm getting ready to order some more.

I'd suggest people try some of their "special Y2K" food now in case they find they've bought something they hate. No need to go strictly self-sufficient until/unless TSHTF in grocery stores or some other area. BH, you and I could have a sudden ice-storm before then! That hard freeze last night was the first taste of winter--and there was snow in the NC mountains.

well personally, if you are dumb enough to go into something this serious without the help of god--good luck!

Self-Sufficient is what you become After your 'Store-Bought' food is GONE.

And you can eat all your store bought food without thanking God for it.

But if you survive after your store bought food runs out, it will Only be by the Grace of God. May you learn to Thank Him.

Doorbaby,

And I do just that, for each hour and day, for capability to enjoy, for those I can love and who love me. Blessings and peace to everyone. Y2K survival will be by the GRACE of God, for which I am very grateful, each day that I can live. Thanks for the post.

Hi Leslie -

I hate that I didn't get back over here before now. I actually checked back here yesterday, and my post was deleted, and I thought it must be because I sound so much like Dogs(Al.D), but I thought:"Well, so be it. I consider myself in good company"(ha!)

I came back late last night and Still didn't check the thread, but I read the one about the "Heavy Handed Censor", and realized that it wasn't just me being deleted.

And THEN I went to that conversation between Greg Caton and DD1stLight. And that was all I read last night. And I e-mailed it to my husband.

And I've been out all day - thanking God for One More Day to buy that Store-Bought food, so that we can hopefully push self-sufficiency as far into the future as possible, as we learn to grow our food.

My best to you,Leslie, and to Everyone on this site.
