Year and value of binoculars

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Exchange: A Forum for Antiques and The Arts : One Thread

I have a pair of binoculars make by Carl Ziess that has the name jenna on the left lens and the letters D.F. 6x and the number 175399 on the right lens. I would like any information as to the year and approximate value of this item. Thank you in advance.

"Lyle Official Antiques Review" (The Berkley Publishing Group, 1999) lists two pairs of binoculars by Zeiss. The first, a marine example, 11 cm, with adjustable eyepieces, sold at Auction Team Koln for $218. The second, however, a D.F. 8 x 60 H example, Jena, both eyepieces adjustable, with contrast filters and covers, in its original metal case, brought $1,454 at the same auction house (which is in Cologne, Germany, and is considered THE place to sell technical items). Sounds like you might have a winner.
