Lawmakers Say Millions Wasted - (AUGUSTA) -- The state legislature's Select Committee on the Year 2000 says the Department of Human Services has wasted a-Million-dollars on computer upgrades it later abandoned. W-M-T-W T-V reports that lawmakers are also unhappy with a 750-thousand-dollar study of the Y-Two-K problem done by PriceWaterhouse Cooper.

Look for many more stories like this, especially as we get further into the new year. There has been a lot of wasted money all under the guise of "Y2k" and it won't stay hidden forever. No one questions any purchasing decision right now, but later people will ask, "Did we really need to spend this money for that?"

Yes, it may very well turn out that all the money thrown at Y2K was essentially wasted, when the fixed and immovable deadline hits. It may not really make a lot of difference between being 10% done versus 95% done, if the end result is the same: failed and unreliable computer systems.
