looking for Logan Bread recipe

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Hi! I'm looking for a complete Logan Bread recipe. The website that had one had a tranfer interrupted signal at the end of what they were giving and it was right in the middle of the ingredients. It started out: 2 - 3 cups honey and molasses 4 eggs OR 1 Tbsp. cornstarch plus 2 Tbsp. water for each egg 2 cups oil 1 cup melted margerine or butter 10 - 15 cups flour, in combination and that was all she wrote. Any body can complete this? Thanks much!

This is not the original Logan Bread recipe but it is a good variation. --4 cups water; 13 to 16 cups ww flour; 1 1/2 cups melted shortening; 1 1/2 cups honey; 2 cups blackstrap molasses; 1 1/2 cups dry milk; 1 tsp salt; 2 tsp baking powder; Add all ingredients to the water and mix thoroughly. Put into muffin tins or run the dough into a pan till it is about 1/2 inch thick, groove into 3 inch squares. Bake at 300 for 1 hr or longer if a drier lighter-weight product is desired. Makes about 5 doz muffin sized, long keeping, hardtack like bricks.

Dear Dee, Thanks for posting (and the email, Countryside!). Now if I can find a recipe for Pilot Bread (a cracker, I think), I'll be set for camping this summer;-).
