Electronic Telegraph is five years old today By Electronic Telegraph Correspondent

Telegraph Money

ELECTRONIC Telegraph today celebrates its fifth birthday. When it launched in 1994 it was the first UK national newspaper to go online, and pioneered the digital era for British publishers.

In spite of intense competition, Electronic Telegraph has won the Internet Newspaper of the Year award for the past three years, and built the largest circulation of any online newspaper. It now comprises a network of 17 Internet sites.

Each day more than 75,000 people log on to this network, and read almost 16 million pages every month. Electronic Telegraph has created two television editions and this week launches a new personal finance web site, Telegraph Money.

It's usually much faster in it's reporting (and no, I do not mean 12 hours faster-more like 2-3 days to months faster). Neddless to say, you will read things there that somehow "escape" the attention of the U.S. press. I agree-one of the vital news sources, and one not given to selective reporting. I consider it essential to have alternative news sources-like this group for instance. If and when Dan Rather or Tom Brokaw decide it's news, it may be way, way, too late.
