"The Contradiction"

While Washington spent $50 million to build a Y2K command bunker, saying, "We have a responsibility to be prepared," political leaders ridiculed members of the public for following the same strategy. Meanwhile, the mainstream press was recruited to distribute spin: namely, that Y2K had been solved and no problems would appear. This cartoon attempts to capture the hypocrisy of the Y2K advice distributed by Washington while hinting that CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS and TIME never got the real story.

One of the key "clues" seems to be the contradictory actions and words of the US government. Along with foreign countries being way behind, then suddenly "done."

Utilities are a mess, and the Government has not spoken to the country about prepardness. Remidiation was done in about three weeks. Who should we believe?
