I need to buy a VHS portable waterproof marine radio, and a base station model such as goes in a boat. Does any one know about the chips in these? Would it be a bad idea to buy a used one? ( Would it be likely to fail?)

I know of no Y2K problems with marine radios. I do recommend their use as an alternative to CB because there are less of them out there, and there will be less interference (until people's batteries run down!). Please do stay off of channel 16 (the Coast Guard emergency channel!)...except in emergencies. Pick another for your communications. (I know Seraphima would do this properly...the request is for the rest of you...)
