Y2K Pro, this isn't you????

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I can't believe you would support multiple posts to make a point. This is not humor, it is wrong.

I am blown away.

Brian:

Every single post of mine today has been deleted. I have been censured by those who disagree with my opinions. This is what is wrong - this is what is un-American. As far as multiple posts go, I have done two in a row and that will be enough. What you should be outraged at is the dimunition of your liberties by out of control SYSOPS....

This forum is intended for people who are concerned about the impact of the Y2000 problem on their personal lives, and who want to discuss various fallback contingency plans with other like-minded people. It's not intended to provide advice/guidance for solving Y2000 problems within an IT organization.

Pro,

That's because you had NOTHING TO ADD TO THE DISCUSSION. All you've done is call people vile names, and belittle their efforts at preparation BECAUSE YOU DISAGREE WITH THEM. (And you've been doing this for MONTHS!) Go back to DeBunkie's, and play with the rest of the widdle kids....

Take a hike BOZO....

Pro

I don't know what got deleted but you are able to talk rationally can't you?

If Andy Ray remains on the board and you don't maybe you had better recheck your arguements.

And as I am a Canadian my interpetation of US intelligence has gone down a big knoch. Freedom of speach is differant from the freedom of being an idiot in a public place.

That is why drinking in a public place is discouraged. Raveing loonies should have the right to do it in their homes. It doesn't make it right to dispute a mistake by doing another mistake.

What ever happened to common sense, maybe this is an indication of what the powers that be are worried about. People loosing all sense of what is right.

On both sides of this issue.

This has me more worried now than Y2K.

Y2K Shmo!

It's time to put down the duckie!

You've got to leave the duck alone.

I agree with you Y2KPro. This is an outrage! I think you should demand your money back immediately! Oh wait, we don't pay anything for this do we? Never mind... :)

Pro,

Your Freedom Of Speech does NOT include the right to distrupt. You have the right to be heard by those who want to hear you, not the right to force yourself on those who don't.

I don't see anyone stopping you from contacting Mr.Greenspun and asking him to start a forum of your own. Those who want to hear you can go there.

Personally though, I think it'll be a pretty lonely place...

What crock of bullshit!

So someone who has differing opinions is DISRUPTING? Is somebody forcing you to read y2kpro's posts? I think not.

I personally want to hear all sides. Remember, NOBODY knows for sure what the full impact of y2k will be, so why not learn all you can from everyone possible? In this way you can make informed decisions. If you've already made up your mind, and can't handle differing opinions, that's your problem. Don't try to stop everyone else's right to read different views. Thank you very much.

I can't resist adding this:

That is why drinking in a public place is discouraged. Raveing(sic) loonies should have the right to do it in their homes. It doesn't make it right to dispute a mistake by doing another mistake.

What ever happened to common sense,(sic) maybe this is an indication of what the powers that be are worried about. People loosing(sic) all sense of what is right.

On both sides of this issue.

This has me more worried now than Y2K.

-- Al K. Lloyd (all@ready.now), November 19, 1999.

ALK,

Y2KPro said that all of the threads he started today were deleted. Creating a whole bunch of threads just to bitch and complain is disrupting, IMHO.

If y2k's threads weren't deleted, then he might not feel the need to post more of them. Who's making you read them?

ALK

-- Al K. Lloyd (all@ready.now), November 19, 1999.

No one. But he IS making me sort through all his CRAP to get to the stuff that I care about. If he wants to complain, let him pick a single thread and I'll ignore it.

I'm a pretty talented programmer. If I wanted it would be TRIVIAL to write a program that flooded any board with enough threads/messages to shut it down. Should I be allowed to do that in the name of 'Free Speech'? What about the others who want to participate? Would denying them that 'right' be OK with you??

"If y2k's threads weren't deleted, then he might not feel the need to post more of them. Who's making you read them?

ALK"

You may have missed what happened earlier, someone posted 50 or more of the same message in a row, which is clearly a silly thing to do and then Pro posted repeated messages that were all the same.

This has nothing to do with a person saying what he wants, it is clearly a way to disrupt the forum

If you could make your point a little clearer on whether you aprove of repeated posts rather than spelling errors it would be helpfull.

Pro: WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THE INTERNET IS AMERICAN?

THINK ABOUT IT. THE INTERNET DOES NOT BELONG TO ANY ONE COUNTRY OR ENTITY. I HEARD IT DESCRIBED ON TV THE OTHER NIGHT AS THE LARGEST EXPERIMENT IN ANARCHY IN HUMAN HISTORY.

MULL THAT OVER A BIT.

Ummmm, isn't the whole point of this forum that people "...who want to discuss various fallback contingency plans with other like-minded people"? Obviously, Andy Ray and Y2K Pro are not in sync with this forum. So why complain when the purpose of this forum is enforced?

I did not come into this forum 13 months ago, because it said "...who want to have a free for all discussion about the realities of Y2K with other like minded people". I came here to get ideas for prepping from others who were as concerned as I am about what could happen. To learn from others about contigency plans for my family, that I might never think of.

I imagine there is a forum on the internet for every subject that a mind can conceive. There are some I visit because I want to know about some things. There are many I wouldn't type into my address bar. My point is that every forum I have been in, stays within the guidelines of the forum. Most people are polite, most people willingly follow the forum guidelines, or they move on and find more like-minded forums to visit.

Despite the evidence here to the contrary, most people are smart enough to realize if you keep rattling a cage, you shouldn't be surprised when you awaken the beast inside. The cage rattling has been going on in here for a very long time. So I have to surmise that those doing rattling are a) doing it deliberately (I guess bad attention is better than no attention) or b) not mature or wise enough to know when to let well enough alone. If, in the case of those being deleted, the reason is A, then I guess you are getting what you deserve. If your reason is B, then I suggest you find somewhere else to go lick your wounds and learn something from the encounter. Because if not, that leads, by default, to c.) stupidity.

Y2k Pro brings nothing of value to this forum. All he/she/it brings is a smart aleck attitude.
