Freezing dry cell batteries

Since dry cell batteries have a limited storage life, would it help to freeze them or leave them outside in the cold to prolong their life?

The only information I have concerns alkaline batteries only. From ccrane.com:

?. . . Store in a cool dry place. Alkaline batteries do not last longer when stored in a refrigerator. Why put a battery next to your food?"

Consumer Reports also debunked the batts in the fridge thing. Keep them in a cool place so their self-discharge rate remains low.
