Looking for info on loc 198H

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Southern Railway : One Thread

I4m writing to you from Berlin, Germany.

I happen to be interested in modeling the SR in N-scale, 1960s through 1970s era, and have currently acquired - what I believe is, since I bought it second-hand - an SD9 loco, numbered 198H.

Trying to upgrade my model, I was searching the internet for prototype information but couldn4t find any regarding my loco.

Does anyone know where I could find any sorts of information on Southern Railways SD9 198H ?

Thanks in advance, Kosta Kowatschew

Kosta--the unit you have--198H was orginially CofG 202 and kept that number under Southern ownership. After the NS merger in 1982 it was renumbered to 198H to avoid a conflict with N&W GP35 202. Therefore, I am sorry to say that your model represents a loco after the NS merger, not the period you model. It should be very easy to change the number to 202--Larry
