Has anyone bought a "Big Berkey" water filter?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

I've searched & researched, and we've decided that the Big Berkey is probably the one we want. Can anyone tell me of their experience with this filter?

Also, where can I get one? Can anyone recommend a reliable source?

THANKS!

Arewyn, I purchased a BB a couple of months ago and I'm very satisfied with the filter. We gave up our bottled water service and expect to save nearly $600/year by filtering our poor quality tap water. And there's a good natural water source nearby if TSHTF.

Go to James Filter

These folks give excellent service

Arewyn,

Yes, and like the poster above, I'm extremely satisfied with it. Water tastes good, and the unit will filter a lot of water before the 'candle filters' need replacing. Good for a family. Sturdy, and has excellent specifications.

watertanks.com is a reliable source.

I love mine, so does thew wife and kids. Neither of the latter groups use the faucet anymore. I would recommend even absent Y2K problems

Hi Arewyn! :-) I use my Big Berkey every day and love it. I bought mine locally here in Houston.

For those who cannot afford the Berkfeld ($279), you can order the same ceramic candle(filter) with activated carbon and a siphon rig for $46. from Pure Water Products of Denton TX. Their website is www.pwgazette.com or call 940-382-3814 and speak to Gene.

Yes, a Big Berkey would be a great purchase ! We just love ours ! We bought ours at JamesFilter.com . We were pleased with both the filter and the service. They also carry all the extra replacement parts and candles. I was very impressed with their service. Happy filtering !!!

Like I said, THANKS!

I feel like I have a treasure... every time I have a question, all I have to do is ask, and then before I know it, you folks have given me an assortment of useful answers. Almost better than having a whole reference library. Only almost because books don't need electricity.

Then again, books don't provide quite the same sense of community you folks provide!

Thanks again. :D

We just bought one. It's looks great, being stainless steel, etc. They are running a special at: Cookin with Home Storage, in Utah, 435-835-8283. The Super Berki is $229.00 and one replacement filter is $42, while 4 replacement filters are $150.00. Vicki Tate is a very nice lady who I have purchased items from before. I bought a grinder from her and two hanging drying racks for drying fruit. She will ship ASAP. Don't wait very long to get your supplies.
