Dental gold

I would like to sell three pieces of dental gold, but other than taking someone's word as to it's price, how might I find out the fair market value? TIA

I am new to this forum and I am a dentist with some knowlege of this subject. Dental gold can be pure gold (rarely) or an alloy of precious and/or non-precious metal. Most commonly it is from a crown or a cast filling and is yellow in color. If it is, it is 50% precious metal. A refiner should weigh the metal and pay you on the spot half the weight at the current gold price. Then it should be assayed and you receive the difference later. A refiner may not do all this for 3 pieces so maybe you could have your dentist include these pieces with his. Just don't expect to retire!
