GW University Y2K Panel Replays at 3:30 AM EST 11/24/99

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The following is more or less a duplicate of a message that I have posted on other threads about the GW University program on "National and Global Initiatives Aimed at Minimizing Impacts" that was broadcast live over C-SPAN on Tuesday at 7:30 PM EST:

You can see a first replay of the 11/23/99 panel program at GW University on C-SPAN 2 at 3:30 AM Wednesday morning, 11/24/99. You can also order a copy from C-SPAN by calling 1-800-277-2698.

I suspect that it will be played several more times during the next week.

My guess is that they will play it many more times if viewers call C-SPAN viewer services and request it.

Thanks for all the interest in the program.

By the way, here is the full website that I referred to:

Thanks Paula!

Hey, now that I've got you here, thanks for helping me throughout '99 in my Y2K education.

When's the next part of PART 6 coming out please?

Thanks for asking.

I intend to work on Part 6 again soon now that the conference series has ended for November.

By the way, I just noticed that the URL in the note above is incorrectly written. It should be http://www.gwu.edu/~y2k/keypeople/gordon

I noticed the absolutely OUTSTANDING attendance at your meeting. Jeez! Darwin would be proud. Don't you find it frustrating to pour your heart into this work, only to have it IGNORED? It'd sure frost ME...

Thanks Paula,

There have been several comments on this forum about increased concern by government types for the embedded problem as a result of the GW conference. Is that you perception? Is the government lying or just hoping ignorantly for the best with its fingers crossed? I do see more negative admissions coming out in the regular press now, i.e. the FAA.

Thanks for the late night heads up on this rebroadcast. I was able to set up the VCR and get it recorded. Will watch it soon.

Someone once said that telling the truth requires at least two people, one to speak the truth and another to listen. The following link contains a number of very breif essays by business leaders that I believe offer some very useful insights into Y2K and the corporate culture:

To Jose Miami,

You wrote: There have been several comments on this forum about increased concern by government types for the embedded problem as a result of the GW conference. Is that you perception? Indeed it is my perception that the President's Council and the Department of Commerce, including the National Institute of Standards and Technology of DOC have a new perspective on the seriousness of the embedded systems problem. I wouldn't say that it was as a direct result of the July Y2K Conference or the November Conference series. However it came about, the important thing is that they now have a clearer perspective on the problems. A thread with the NIST article on embedded just went up on TB2000 Discussion Forum in the last 24 hours.

My most recent views concerning the government's perspective is to be found on my website. When you get to my homepage, click on "Comments, Essays, & Op-Ed Pieces". My November comments and impact scale rating are there. My home page URL is

http://www.gwu.edu/~y2k/keypeople/gordon

An absence of understanding of the nature of the problem and its seriousness have been playing a major role in the actions (or lack of action) on the part of the key government officials, from the President and Vice President to the President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion. I will try to be addressing those concerns more fully in the next installment of Part 6 and in my December Comments and Impact Scale Rating.

Regards,

Arnie Rimmer,

Thanks for your note and the URLs. They sound interesting.

I am afraid that I was either given the wrong time for the replay of the program or they changed their schedule. CSPAN 2 replayed the program around 4:30 AM instead of at 3:30 AM as I had been informed. I suspect it will be replayed again several times in the next few days.

Regards,

Paula

I thought there was a lot of great information on the show. My wife and I watched it all and we appreciate all the work you have done on Y2K.

Paula:

Looks like the time may have been off, but fortunately I did not program the VCR. I just put an 8 hour tape in at 12:30am, pressed record, and went to bed. (manual workarounds!)

I verified this morning that I had recorded the conference though it did appear to be broadcast at a later time than your message indicated.
