Wood Stove in Fireplace.... Safe?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Preparation Forum : One Thread

I bought a wood stove which would fit into my fireplace. The brick chimney is 3 stories tall in an exterior wall. Is it safe to use the wood stove there? If so, I assume an exhaust pipe is needed, so how long should the exhaust pipe from the stove rise up (in) the chimney? Thank you in advance.

I had a fireplace insert installed in my fireplace. We installed a stovepipe within the chimney all the way up. Why? Because it eliminated the massive heat loss through the chimney that was occuring because of its size. No use installing a woodstove and having to keep the damper perminantely open to accompany the stove pipe. You will lose all your heat up the chimney. (Always remember - heat rises)
