Staying Healthy (body PH levels)

According to John Hopkins Medical Center and other research, maintaining appropriate body PH is the greatest factor for staying healthy. They further state that body PH must be within the 7.34 to 7.40 range for optimum health. If the body PH is maintained between these levels, they believe that cancer, chronic fatigue, connective tissue diseases, and arthritus can not thrive. (Tried to paste the articles in here but can not get that stupid thing to work, no matter how many times I tried.) Does anyone now how to measure body PH, and how to adjust it, or keep it in balance? Have been reading about people using vinegar as an alternative to maintaining body balances, would this make the body more acidic and cause problems, or would it cause an alkaloid response? Vinegar reportedly tests out with an acid level of 3.0. Thank you. PS: If anyone is interested in the original documents, please email. Suzy----I was listening to a health related radio program a while back and they were discussing this very topic of Ph in the body. The guy on the radio said anyone can check their body ph by simply buying some ph test srips for a buck at the drug store and testing your saliva.

Makes sense to me, although I haven't tried it yet. Too many other things to do these days.

Normal adult humans eating Western diets have chronic, low-grade metabolic acidosis, the severity of which is determined in part by the net rate of endogenous noncarbonic acid production (NEAP), which varies with diet. To prevent or reverse age-related sequelae of such diet-dependent acidosis (eg, bone and muscle loss), methods are needed for estimating and regulating NEAP. Because NEAP is difficult to measure directly, we sought a simple method to estimate it from diet-composition data. We focused on protein and potassium contents because the production of sulfuric acid from protein metabolism and bicarbonate from dietary potassium salts of organic acids are the major variable components of NEAP. Using steady state renal net acid excretion (RNAE) as an index of NEAP in 141 normal subjects eating 20 different diets, we found by multiple linear regression analysis that RNAE [mEq/d x 10460 kJ diet (mEq/d 2500 kcal)] was predictable (R2 = 0.62) from protein [g/d x 10460 kJ diet (g/d 2500 kcal); positive regression coefficient, P < 0.001] and potassium [mEq/d x 10460 kJ diet (mEq/d x 2500 kcal): negative regression coefficient, P = 0.001] contents, which were not themselves correlated. Among diets, 71% of the variation in RNAE could be accounted for by the ratio of protein (Pro) to potassium (K) content: RNAE = 62Pro/K - 17.9 (r = 0.84, R2 = 0.71, P < 0.001). Thus, by considering both the acidifying effect of protein and the alkalinizing effect of potassium (organic anions), NEAP can be predicted with confidence from the readily available contents of only 2 nutrients in foods. Provisionally, these findings allow estimation and regulation of NEAP through diet modification.

I have found a formula for correcting a ph balance that works very well. Put 1 cut up,large lemon in a blender. add 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil. Fill remaining space with water. Blend high for 2 minutes. Pour thru strainer. Discard pulp. The lemon juices and pectin (from the peel) will "cut" thru the olive oil, and it will mix with the water. This makes the oil easier to absorb, and it a ten-cent miracle for keeping ph correct, healing the liver, and aiding absorption. Drink 1 glass a day,any time.
