Whispering "Fire" in a Theater Ablaze ((Mainstream Media Version)

Part VIII of the series "What's Wrong with the Way the World Thinks about Y2K"

Whew! This "epic" is a "must read" on government and media treatment of Y2K.

The only cut 'n paste that I'll do is this:

"We do not need a censorship of the press. We have a censorship by the press."

G. K. Chesterton (1874-1936)

(Good job, Lane! No wonder you've been quiet lately, I see you've been real busy...)

Pshannon,

You're right. It is well worth taking the time to read:

That was awesome. Thanks Patrick for the link, and Lane for the piece.

My favorite (snip): Long holiday weekend? Are we supposed to be buying beer and chips or canned food and batteries?

Lane,

I am continually AMAZED at how well you manage to state the issues so insightfully. You are DEFINITELY "da man"!

And God help us all....

Yes, Lane, good. And disgusting. There is no inner spirit to our commercial life, which is, unfortunately, our public life as a nation. That presages the end of an age equally to the conditions that immediately give rise to that demise (in this case Y2K.

Truly a remarkable essay that voices many of the concerns of GI-dom. Printing it to distribute to the duped, shocked and angry after the rollover to crystalize and focus their energies on the culprits. The media will look different by then anyway.

Thanks, everybody.
