I apologize in advance if this is a question that has already been asked ... but could not find in archive.

What is the relative merits and demerits of the Pur Ultimate Water Filter over other similar products?

Good question. I would like an answer to this too. I have seen the Pure water filters that remove Girardia ans Criptosporin (msp?) for as low as $29. Very reasonable prices on both the faucet mount and pitchers. Anyone know about these???

Thanks

The March 1999 issue of Backpacker magazine shows 5 models of PUR filters: Explorer, Scout, Voyaguer, Hiker and Pioneer. These are listed from most expensive ($130) to least expensive ($35).

All of them except Pioneer eliminate Giardia iamblia most of the time (pore size is 0.3 microns; parasitic protozoans range from .2 to 1.5 microns)

Again, all of these except Hiker and Pioneer eliminate viruses (which are more dangerous than parasites and can cause polio and heptitis).

PUR is a quality water filter.
