At least two dead in collision of flight school planes 12.32 p.m. ET (1744 GMT) December 3, 1999 DELAND, Fla. (AP)  Two small planes from different flying schools collided in the air today, killing at least two people.

A Piper Cadet from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University with two people aboard and a Piper Seminole owned by Phoenix East, another flight school, collided about 10 a.m. near DeLand Municipal Airport, said Lisa Ledewitz, spokeswoman for Embry-Riddle.

The student and instructor aboard the Embry-Riddle plane were killed. Their names were being withheld until their relatives were notified.

Ms. Ledewitz did not have information about the occupants of the other plane. A spokeswoman for Phoenix East said the flight school would not comment until it had more information about the accident.

Police in DeLand, about 25 miles west of Daytona Beach, did not immediately return calls.
