Medium Format Scanner??

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi, I'm looking for a good quality Medium Format Scanner. Something better than the Minolta. Anyone have experience doing MF scans? I use the LS-2000 for my 35mm. Thanks! Howard

You want something better than the Minolta? How muach money are you willing to spend? The next jump in quality comes at the $7,000 to $8,000 price range with the Nikon LS45. After that, there's the $12,000 Imagatec scanner. Then we get into the drum scanner category at $70,000.

How many slides do you need to scan? After renting time on a Tango drum scanner I sold my Umax PowerLook III and plan to budget $3,000 per year for time on the Tango. The quality is so much better that any other scanner is a waste of time and money. The drawback is the $3,000 will get me about 70-80 scans annually. I don't get that money good photos per year anyway, so I figure in about three years I'll have caught up with my archive of photos worth preserving.
