Black & White with XL1?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Shooting DV Films : One Thread

I was led to believe that black & white was a digital effect option on the Canon XL1, but now that I have one, I can't find it. Maybe it's on the PAL version only. Any ideas? Or is it best to shoot in color, and change to b&w in editing? Thanks for any help.

I have a PAL version of the XL1 and there's not a b&w mode either. You have to shoot in color

You get B/W in post production

Hi there, we are in 2003 now, with the XL-1s out now. On this one you DO HAVE a black and white function. In custom settings you can set the colour saturation down to "nothing", thus b/w.
