fixing rc paper

greenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo - Printing & Finishing : One Thread

I have primarily worked with fiber base paper in the past, but for a unusual project have decided to use Ilfords multigrade iv rc. The processing informatiion lists 30 second fix times for Ilford and rapid universal fixer. What about standard kodak film/paper fixer? Also can a print after drying be placed back in the fixer additonal time if I find one minute is not enough? ouch. Thank's

Hi Larry,

I use Kodak Rapid Fixer without hardner. I fix using a two bath method (one minute in each) for a total of 2 minutes. It appears to work, but only time will tell.

I haven't really done this myself, but I've heard of others that fix the paper and give a quick wash, then come back to it a few days later to tone, re-fix and wash. I guess as long as you fix the paper sufficiently to remove the unexposed silver and wash, you could re- fix at a later date.

Regards, Pete
