Can extra of one thing account for less of another?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Smokejumpers : One Thread

Hello there, I was interested in becoming a smokejumper, however in your website devoted to this question, some of the qualification are not quite within my reach. I am from Michigan, and most of our wildlife fire suppresion in done through the DNR with planes. However, I am an experienced Paramedic with ACLS, PHTLS, PALS, and NRP. Would too much of one thing allow me to make up for another?

Thank you for your time.

qualifications

Hi there,

Having a lot of qualifications in a specific area is a good thing, but it doesn't make up for a lack in other areas when it comes to becoming a smokejumper. The minimum requirements are just that--minimum requirements. Everything else is gravy, so to speak. But the minimums certainly aren't unattainable, if that's what you want to do.

Hope that answers your question,

Dan
