New Year's Eve curfew, lockdown in Las Vegas? Really hard to picture in that town!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

This O.T. (and anecdotal) post to an completely unrelated mailing list turned up this evening --
...while in Las Vegas, NV, this weekend local news said 11:30 PM curfew on 12/31/99. Some Airport employee said there is a lock down and lock in occurring on public buildings and hotels? Also NG preparing for patrols - Any other cities with this announcement...??
Perhaps someone here may have heard that Las Vegas report -- or can tie a can to it -- ???

I lived in Vegas for a couple of years (long ago) and even then this scenario for New Year's Eve would have been unreal.

I'm not sure I beleive this story. Las Vegas would have a riot on New Years eve if they tryed to put a 11:30 curfew. The town dosen't even get going till 11:30 pm.

There is going to be a curfew FOR MINORS. Also at for some time period the strip and an area a few blocks on either side will be closed to vehicles.

Could be the casinos don't want the crowds out pertying in the streets, but want them indoors losing their money. So just twist the politico's arms and get a "Be off the streets..." rule passed. And mosts folks going to Vegas would never complain about being locked inside a casino, would they? ;)
