some info/advice from a lurker

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I just felt that I needed to post after having lurked here for so long. Why I can even remeber when FLAME AWAY was still scotty and and all that bullhocky with the spoon. Infact I use to read doggone's posts over on the Free Republic with fishhog and citizen x, but that was a long time ago. Anyway, I want to thank all of you here for all your insight, purseverance in reporting the information and support(though not me personally I still benefited). You guys have been a bright spot in my day for a long time and I'm really going to miss the personalities here. Also I'm not sure you guys know it but I believe that you have reached alot more people than you think. I personally have printed out and distributed a lot of your posts when the info was important or incredibly entertaining. So trust me you've reached a lot of people.

So now I feel its my turn to provide some info and advice, though I'm not a good typist and am kinda shy, comes a time you have to stand up and be counted. I work for a state run institution in Wisconsin and am going on vacation for the better part of a month, today is my last day. So here it goes.

At the beging of the year we got e-mailed to us the agencies plan for for my institution for the rollover. It consisted of stockpileing enoff food for approx. 30 days. Because the institution is very old (125yrs) the boiler/heating plant is on grounds and use to be run on coal, 450 tons(30days)have been been placed outside the plant for coversion back if the power goes down(we currently run on natural gas). We have generators (deisel/steam)that have been checked out over the summer. We also run off a well that fills up the water tower but have purched a ice auger and can bore holes in the ice of the lake we're on to secure water in the edvent of a problem. In all I think the state has done a excellent job of contingency planing for this institution, I hope they've done as good a job in remediation as well. Though given all that I have read I don't think it would matter, we'll see.

That was the info, here's the advice. I know that most all of the preppers(I'm a prepper too) have discussed the the inevidable fact that they are going to be helping their neighbors in the edvent that there are problems. I first want to say bless your souls for this because you are the salt of the earth and are in my prayers. This nation is going to need you even though the PTB will probably demonize you for your efforts. This is where we get into the advice. Its really not mine but comes out of scripture. When Joseph handed out the provisions Egypt made for the famine, he exacted a price. He eventually enslaved the entire population. Needless to say he kept good records. If we we are distirbuting from our stockpiles we'll need to keep good records as well. My personal plan is to exact a price(to give thanks to the Lord anytime someone makes use of what I've given them) and they'll have to sign my record of what I've given them. If the TPTB find falt in what I've done they'll hopefully have to prove that to a jury of my peers. And if not the Lord still knows that I did it for Him. Hope this helps people because there isn't much left to say conserning this issue. You guys have pretty much covered it all. Thanks for the memories.

God bless you.

Hello Lt. Dans:

Very good advice. (I remember Scotty, too!) I kinda wish you'd posted more when we had time....

Anita,

I'm not sure how it would have been recieved by my superiors. At this point in time it doesn't matter to me. I've done all that I could here at the institution as well as at home. I hope it was enoff.
