OT: Terrorism in the USA?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Reading all the news about terrorism and the resulting fear it generates, I was reminded of a movie staring Bruce Willis with a similar thread. (sorry cant remember the title)

Anyway Your country seems to be heading down the same path of fortification as the film did. And I can just picture the border guards getting jumpy every time an "Algerian" tries to drive through.

This sort of fear has to be contagious. In the film the government ended up calling in the military with martial law to get the bad guys.

Anybody remember the film?

I was reading some dated comments by FEMA earlier this year and a FEMA official (Goss) advised the participants to see the movie "PeaceMaker". I gather she/he thought that would be a reasonable scenario. M

Yes it is a shame, but when you have a .gov, that sticks it's nose into every little crack in the world, that's what you get. For some reason, we just can not learn to butt out! BTW, there is something strange about THIS round of terrorist arrests. By the FBI's own admission, these things happen 100's of times a year. We just never hear about it. Now however, it's in/on the media 24/7.

Flameaway, your comments seem to presume that we started this shit with Islamic fundamentalists. We didn't. As I read it, the way the world was carved up after WWI was just a reapportionment, albeit a bad one, after the Ottomans had swallowed up everything in the what, 15th Century? The region has been a boiling pot of petty fiefdoms, backstabbing, warfare and turmoil for centuries, with Moslems killing moslems and others for various reasons. The Islamic radicals try to paint the west as the bad guy in all this, but, hey, didn't they start this shit in the 7th Century? I seem to recall from history books the fact that the Moslems had overrun all of North Africa and Spain by the early 8th Century, and that it was at the battle of Tours in France in 732 that they were finally stopped in the west. Then, of course, they held on to Spain for another seven centuries. Then, of course, there was the invasion of Europe from the other direction, ending in, what, 1572?? in Austria. We didn't start this shit.

That's Muslims.

The islamic fundamentalists hate the U.S. because we support Israel, which is a theocratic state with a history of human rights violations that rival ours in the U.S. If we maintained an armed neutrality stance with regard to most of the countries in the world, no one would care about the United States. They DID NOT start 'it'.

We got ourselves in trouble by being the world's globocop.

The whole terrorism incident smells like the Reichstag fire. If terrorist acts occur, the shadow government will be my first suspects. This would be just a perfect opportunity for the fascists waiting in the wings to let loose a few paid terrorists to mass murder people, blame it on those evil right wing militias and start rounding people up.

It's coming...
