Y2K inspires run on bottled water

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The rush for water, which started as a trickle
early this month, turned into a tsunami this
week.

. . .

The tap has yet to run dry, but some
distributors warn that the big jugs -- plastic
bottles that hold 18 litres of water -- are
already becoming scarce and may not be in
stock by New Year's Eve.

There was an article in the Seattle Times about a local water bottler, Talking Rain, and how much sales were up. They quoted a spokesman as saying that sales/consumption was up 11% and that was equivalent to summertime levels.
