Ron:

Please explain the purpose of the oneList forum. This is fundemantal as it is not clear wheather we stay here or go there. I think you need to set down the policy as in my last post if that is ok with you, or close down this forum with a final post and tell everybody to go to onelist.

I can't close down this forum, it's not mine!

I left the ONEList forum open, the only rules (other than those imposed by the owners of ONEList (such as "no spamming!") are "NO ABUSE!".

If you subscribe there, you'll have the option of receiving a copy of each email sent to the list, or a daily digest of all traffic, or, you can tell it no not mail you anything, in which case you can go to the website and read the traffic via your browser.

I just wanted to have a way for people to stay in touch in case this site goes bye-bye.

Ok then its settled then. We stay here until TB2000 comes back. If we loose this site we go to your ONEList site to get announcements or continue threads.

Great now lets get back to news and stuff.

Ron, I'm completely confused by the Onelist. I just signed up and checked everything. I received an e-mail asking if I'd like an account. If I reply, does this mean my e-mail account switches? Please forgive my ignorance. Thanks.

Casey;

You have to sign up for a membership account with OneList as well.

Thanks, Rev.

Casey -- ONEList is a free listserv service. You'll probably need to create an initial profile there. I've forgotten the details, it's been quite a while since I joined the first list there. (I receive a bunch of traffic from several ONEList lists for GMRS, FRS, UHF, Motorola and GE radio stuff.)

There's nothing there that can change your email address.

Thank you, Ron, and thank you for doing this.

Casey:

Just reply the e-mail and send it. Do not modify anything. Make sure the reply will come from the same e-mail address that you used when you registered. All you are doing is setting up an account to use the ONElist servers. You'll get another e-mail saying you have an account with one-list. Then you'll need to register and get approval to use the TB2000-Alternate forum. To do this go to the link above and click register. Eventually, if I'm not mistaken, you will get anpther email saying you have been approved to access TB2000-Alternate.

Ron:

Does this last e-mail still come since you've setup auto approvals for TB2000-Alternate?

Thanks, Casey. I'm hoping it'll be like homeowners insurance -- something that gives some peace of mind, but is hopefully never needed.

IS: I think you'll still need to confirm. Most responsible listservs have gone to mandatory subscriber-confirmation (i.e., after you subscribe, you have to confirm that you really did subscribe), because of abuse by spammers and "list bombing" attacks where someone signs a victim up to scads of lists.

By making the list "open", it means that *I* won't have to also confirm each subscriber.

Ron,

(I posted this to another thread, just thought I'd add it to this one too, let me know about the multiple e-mail thing if you can.)

Ron,

Can I use more than one e-mail address on the ONElist? I post from both work and home and I use a Hotmail address from work. Just thought I'd ask before I went into the whole signup process. I do agree that it is a good idea to have a non-MIT place to share info as well...thanks Ron!

(Just hopped over to Debunkies, I'm a little surprised that the jubilation at the situation at TB2000 was more understated that I'd have initially expected. Perhaps they were a little worried that they would have to start harassing each other if our little home bites the dust? Gotta have SOMEONE to hate, I suppose...)

What's the wait time for membership on ONEList?

-- Little Pig (littlepig@brickhouse.com), December 29, 1999.

Little Pig, it's immediate. Don't have to wait at all.

-- Wilferd (WilferdW@aol.com), December 29, 1999.

John -- I think you can set up an alternate address, not sure of the procedure. You could always just subscribe separately from both addresses if you'd like.

Ron,

I have tried twice to register. It just tells me it is an illegal operation and shuts me out. Can you help me?
