Diane,

A big thanks to you and the rest of the Sysops for all of your hard working keeping this place "clean". You deserve a medal!

-- Deb M. (vmcclell@columbus.rr.com), December 29, 1999.

Thanks a million Diane!

-- Uncle Bob (UNCLB0B@AOL.COM), December 29, 1999.

Thank you Diane and thank you Sysops!!!

Diane, would it be a good idea to compile a email list of the regulars (excluding the trolls) to notify if the crap starts again? I obviously can't do it on Webtv but maybe someone out there has more 'muscle' power to do that. I think it should be one of the regulars, not Sysops----you've got enough to do.

OBTW, Thanks for being you. God bless and cover you in the trying time to come. Jim Moore RiverMystFarm@webtv.net

-- Lobo (atthelair@yahoo.com), December 29, 1999.

Diane, let me know if you need some help with the email list. I will gladly volunteer one of my web guys to take care of it!

;o)

Diane, a few folks have partial new and old copies of the site. If you want access to these, then you may wanna post a call ASAP, as well as any address, so that folks can burn a copy and get it in the mail to you.

-- Hokie (va@va.com), December 29, 1999.

Thnak you for being here!!

-- nana2 (mtclair@jps.net), December 29, 1999.

Hokie,

Courtesy of a regular, I do have a CD copy of both the Prep and TBY2K Forums, as of a week ago. (Christmas present).

The Sysops still have access to TBY2K through the Admin Software.

Thanks.

Let me deal with first things first, then we'll talk about an e-mail list. Someone posting on Ed's HumptyDumpty Y2K may have one.

I've collected (and am collecting) a ton of e-mail addresses from regulars at Bok's chatroom. Was able to notify many this a.m. of problems. If you would go to FRLchat, I'll take your addresses and add them to the list. When the list gets too cumbersome, I'll pass it on to "LZach."

Diane,

Many, many thanks. Your terrific!

-- Lurkess (Lurkess@Lurking.Net), December 29, 1999.

May be someone out there who has a complete copy, I remember reading A&L got one very recently, can pass it to someone else who has a fat pipe and server and wouldn't mind hosting the file, until after the rollover, so we can down load from there rather than having tb2000 trashed again. I hear we are talking about 500MB for both forums.

-- Interested Spectator (is@the_ring.side), December 29, 1999.

Thank you for the time that you give this forum and the hard work to help maintain it. I for one, appreciate you very much.

Where is BOK's chat room?

-- Interested Spectator (is@the_ring.side), December 29, 1999.

Diane and all, a huge thanks.

LL, Pro, and all of your type, I feel sorry for you. You must really have to work hard to be this miserable. It's too bad you can't find a place where you fit in and are wanted.

You brighten up a room, by leaving it.

-- Bill (bill@tinfoil.com), December 29, 1999.

If the TB2000 archive can be condensed to a single (~500MB) file, I can provide an FTP mirror site from which the file could be downloaded. Send me email if you are interested.

Never mind, you beat me to it (password).

-- Little Pig (littlepig@brickhouse.com), December 29, 1999.

To Diane and everyone else is SYSOPS.

This is great site, I am glad to say I was referred to here by a friend. I am have posted a couple of things here as well. Keep up the great work. I agree you guys do deserve a medal.

Sincerely and Humbly

Thundar

-- Thundar (midnite_thundar@lookingdownfromabove.com), December 29, 1999.

Thundar, are you related to "Thunder Thighs"?

-- Hawk (flyin@high.again), December 29, 1999.

I just found this backup list because someone posted the URL on the freerepy2k mailing list. Perhaps we should have our own moderated mailing list to use when there are problems with the Greenspun system. It is very easy to start one on onelist, egroups, etc. It would be unfortunate if this group lost contact just a few days before y2k.

-- Danny (dcox@ix.netcom.com), December 29, 1999.

E-mail communicated with Phil.

For now, the main forum is down. It may stay that way.

As to this one staying "up" hard to say. I'll post a back-up list tonight.

In the meantime... keep this e-mail addy handy...

Later.

F.Y.I., after a few e-mails... the upshot is...

Subject: Re: Phil... Do You Have A Direct Phone Number?
Date: Wed, 29 Dec 1999 15:34:23 -0500
From: Philip Greenspun Reply-To: philg@mit.edu

[My questions...]

I will "try" to work on getting you your Pentium.

[snip]

Request: Could you please let the new back-up Forum stand at least through the end of next week? I'd need it to try and get that Pentium for you.

Thanks for your "immense" amount of patience. I do understand that you're p*ssed off.

[Phils response...]

I'm not pissed off. It is just that I'm neutral among the publishers who use greenspun.com. When one forum tries to consume 900% of the machine (not 90% but 900%), the natural thing to do is turn it off to save the rest of the server.

Philip
