MAYBE the Y2K DISASTER/DISRUPTIONS WILL BE JUST LIKE THIS

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Rollover/Back-Up Forum : One Thread

OUR OLD TB2000 site looks like it is history, who knows. But due to certain intelligent people, we have another site to exchange ideas and solutions. It was a computer glitch and it did take down our site, whether it was an IT problem or a hacker problem it really doesn't matter. Good old American know how came through and saved the day. This should all give us a feeling of reassurance for the coming months ahead.

Hmmmm...

One discussion Forum on an otherwise working host system is taken down, so two others on the same system (one pre-existing, the other quickly created) take its place. People are now able to continue an enjoyable and useful (though hardly mission-critical) information exchange.

And from this, you conclude... what? That a small problem in an otherwise stable environment will be handled quickly? One would certainly hope so.

One site was shut down. The power grid was still functioning. The phone system was still functioning. All they had to do was find, or create, another site on the internet.

If that were all there was to the y2k threat, none of us would be here seeking info & comfort from each other.

It's the difference between changing cabins on the Titanic, & being forced to leave the ship...

Yes, but what about all those people who out there who don't know to come here?

The main word was "MAYBE". NO way did I imply that the solutions for this problem would be this simple. But American Know how did get us past this one. We all know there will be problems, some we will get through and some we will have to work around, even if it is in a cave, with smoke in our eyes, and our hands gripping a Mossberg

Dot --- The strong shall survive. Some people were prepared if something like this happened. Will the lost find their way, who knows.
