Forum Administrationgreenspun.com : LUSENET : B&W Photo: Creativity, Etc. : One Thread
As you may have noticed, I've made a few changes to this forum which will, I hope, improve your experience with it.
Messages are now divided into "New" and "Older" questions. A question is new if it was posted within the last 60 days.
I have also added the ability to create categories for posts. I still haven't quite figured out how it works, so if there are any experienced Greenspun Forum folks out there who can explain it, please do so here (AG, are you listening?)
I received several comments that it was taking a long time for all of the messages to load--a good point, now that this forum has over 2,000 messages--I've set it up so the page can load more quickly now.
Please let me know what you think!

I guess that you have said 'yes' to the question 'Allow Users to Add New Categories?'. This should allow users to create their own categories, rather than choosing from a list that you have created. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work (at least, not in Philosophy of Photography, which uses the same software).
So I'm afraid, Mason, you have to decide on the categories, and add them yourself. Rather awkwardly, you have to do this by editing a thread, change the category to 'Define New Category', press 'Set Category', type the new category name in the box, and press 'RETURN' while the cursor is still in that box.
Strangely, you can't just create a list of categories.
I've been meaning to do this complex task for PofP for some time now, but haven't got around to it.
Hope this helps. I like the new layout. Compliments of the season to you and yours, and everyone else in this forum (and all the others, come to that).

Thanks for the workaround, Alan!
It is awkward, but at least it can be done. I'll play with it in my "ample" free time.
