Denver airport is passing out flashlights

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) Rollover/Back-Up Forum : One Thread

I just saw on the MSNBC news that the Denver airport (which is HUGE) is passing out flashlights on New Year's Eve just in case the power goes off. The commentator also said that there would only be 45 jets flying on that night due to consumer fears.

I predict that, like Times Square, the airport will be full of adrenaline-junkies -- people whose greatest desire in life is to put themselves in harm's way, for both the thrill & the bragging rights.

I know such people. They scare me.

So what do they plan on doing with these flashlights? Stand on each side of the runway. And if its lights out (literaly) are those stranded in the airport going to be calmed down with flash-lights?

Can't these reportors give info on the real preparations that they took? May be these were the real preparations.

If the power goes off, it will be more interesting for those stuck in the underground train cars if they can use their flashlights to watch the little propellers on the tunnel walls turn!

There is apparently no way to walk out of the tunnels before the rescuers arrive...
